Iran’s FM elaborates on evacuation of citizens from Ukraine

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Monday, elaborating on the details of evacuation of citizens from Ukraine.

The Iranian foreign ministry issued three announcements in different periods, including before the war in Ukraine, calling on Iranians to leave the country, the statement said.

The foreign ministry also formed a Ukraine crisis headquarters, headed by deputy foreign minister and attended by the concerned officials, to continually watch Ukraine developments.

Despite the foreign ministry’s warnings, many Iranians, like many other foreigners in Ukraine, refused to leave the country before the war began, according to the statement, adding that after beginning of the Russian invasion they were asked to use any possibility to leave and take refuge in specified shelter if they couldn’t.

The foreign ministry also said that it had established a 24-hour contact line for the families of Iranian nationals in Ukraine to be updated on their latest situation.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has called his counterparts in Ukraine, Russia, Hungary and Slovakia to stress that the security of Iranian nationals is the first priority of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Following the consultations between Iranian officials in Tehran and in Ukraine’s neighboring countries with ambassador and officials, the statement said, Romania, Poland and Hungary opened their borders to Iranian nationals stuck in Ukraine, so that they can leave for safe places.
